Moods...

As far as moods go, today is a Dead Body Day.  I don't know if I can actually put my finger on it and find the words to describe it.  I've reached a certain level of apathy that makes me feel like the thoughts I have are just sort of scraping around inside my head like fingernails on a chalkboard.  Every word of every idea smacks hard against the inside of my forehead and bounces violently back across my brain to plant itself firmly on the back of my head like a smack from an uptight grandmother who caught me joking about yams during an otherwise pleasant Thanksgiving dinner.

I think it has a great deal to do with some sort of campaign fatigue.  Everyday, I turn on the television for a little background noise, and all I hear is something that sounds as if it sprung from a preschool sandbox.  It's mindless, pointless, irrelevant bickering, and as a result, I have a whole new level of respect for parents, teachers, and anyone whose profession is to deal with children.  If nothing else, this election has lead me question whether or not I am at any sort of point in my life where I could take on the duties of being a parent.  It's a constant barrage of attacks as they try to demonstrate why their opponent is undeserving of the sandbox, while they never say why they themselves ARE deserving.

It's brutal.  And, it makes me want to unleash a herd of crap-happy cats upon that damned sandbox.  There have been ten ads in the past fifteen minutes, and not a single one of them has been what I would consider positive.

There are other things weighing me down.  The weather here is a lot like living in England without the good beer.  It's cold, gray and wet, and it makes me feel like an unhappy, sober flounder hanging out on a chilly and dark ocean floor.

Ah well...  It'll clear up soon enough.  Enough of my griping.  Have a wild and wonderful weekend, everyone!

  1. Hey, Dan, care from some baby swiss and colby?   It's dark, cold, and wet here, too.   Maybe put on a cd and forget about the t.v. ads?   Unless you're following baseball.  -- Robin

  2. Turn off the tv... turn a cd... no commercials.  Or mp3 player or satellite radio.  Or pop in a dvd.  I know... the rainy dampness has me moody and feely achey which annoys me mentally as much as my joints.   Will be writing about that later...

    be well,
    Dawn

  4. DP....I feel the same way. Recently I got upset when I was listening to Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh on the radio. I DID NOT like the way they talked about Michael J. Fox and his illness. I do NOT agree with the views of any of the talk show hosts I heard on the radio.

I agree with you about the bickering on television when it comes to the election. Its like one party bashing the other and the other bashing the other party. I don't understand all of the negative campaigning. I think that we need people who don't sink to that level. Its also been cold and wet here in Georgia which also affects my moods perhaps. I had to write an entry about my thoughts as well. Thanks for sharing your griping it helped me to not feel so bad. Thanks for sharing this.

    Have a good night.

  7. Well, I'm not really unhappy or anything.  I'm just kind of exasperated with everything.  It's going to be a looooong week, I think.

  10. Wow...as if that post doesn't have the soundtrack from "Requiem" and the sound of cocking shotguns in the backround...jeez Danimal get thee to a tanning booth and FAST!

Apathy is a good thing, it just makes you one step closer to totally snapping and holding up a burger king in your underwear at 3am demanding tacos.

And if you think ads in Wisconsin are bad...move to Chicago!

Hope your weekend brightened up, Indian Summer is here!

  11. Agreed on the campaign thing. I would love to see a law enacted whereby candidates could only put ads on the air in which they describe what they intend to do and are not allowed to mention their candidate, his or her record, or anything else that doesn't start with the words, "If elected, I will..."

Of course, they'd find a way around it. But then they should face jail time. Hard time.

  12. I know.  This weather is anything but positive.  I also completely understand your frustration with the recent campaign strategies in this state.  It's dreadful.  I am constantly saying the same thing.  What are YOU going to do?  What are YOU for and against?  I don't care if they want to play the he said/she said game.  I'm to the point where I will vote for anyone on that ballot who has NOT had a commercial on TV.  Ugh!
