[The Wisdom of a Distracted Mind] Ooo... Wicked.

Yard.
Earlier today, I got an infrared filter in the mail, and the second I took it out of the box and slapped it on the end of my lens, the sun which was beaming down today turning my world into a baked and desolate wasteland, promptly hid behind a vast blanket of dead gray.

Normally, that wouldn't have been so bad, but this filter needs all the light it can get. It completely blackens everything in the view finder; however, thankfully, the autofocus operates before the camera's internal IR filters, so that still works. You just have to hope that what you're pointing at is what you want to shoot.

It also renders everything in this eye-twisting, putrescent pink color, but a few skips through Photoshop is more than enough to remove the pain.

Believe it or not, it's actually a lot of fun. I just hope the sun comes out one of these days so I can get some decent shots around town with it to figure out just what the hell I'm doing.

Anyway, as for today's photo, I'm not horribly impressed with it; however, if you look at the background, I think it kicks some serious ass. The trees just take on a life of their own with this filter, don't you think?

  1. Dan, when I first looked at this photo, I thought you'd taken a picture of an elaborate model train setup, with houses and trees and everything. It gives it such a surreal, artificial look. That IS wicked!

  2. My first instinct was to look for Jack Nicholson to jump out from behind a shrub and
yell "I'm Baa-aack!"  Wicked it is...but I knida like looking at it.
