[The Wisdom of a Distracted Mind] Security is a Wonderful Thing...

Here's just one of the four delightful visions of rodent carnage which greeted me earlier this morning. The poor, little, blind bastard of a mole didn't seem to stand much of a chance against the rather clumsy Ninja skills of DogCat who, though a little slow now and then, seems to have single-handedly (or pawedly) fought back a major offensive of the rodents who had lain siege to the house.

It seems as though he propped up this little item of early-morning death in the crack here as a sort of warning to any others foolish enough to attempt another invasion.

Disturbing.

Very, very disturbing.

It must've been on hell of a night for DogCat.

So far, I've only managed to spot four fallen critters, but I've not checked all that closely. There could be several more lying dead or grievously wounded in the shrubbery along the perimeter of the yard. As it stands now, the walkway along the side of the house looks like the end result of a Somme Valley mustard gas attack.

Of course, when he came in this morning, DogCat just issued his usual grunting greeting as he headed for his food dish. It was almost as if he was saying, Dude? Do you have any idea how tough it is around here once the sun goes down? I deserve treats!

[The Wisdom of a Distracted Mind] Relax. It's Sunday.

Here are Two Stunning Minutes of MTV.

MTV Latin America has been putting this little video of trippy sky-gazing into it's circulation in an attempt to rest the weary eyes and minds of its viewers. And, I'll admit, it's pretty relaxing and actually kind of fun.

I've been watching the Flash Version, but there's also a QuickTime H.264 (45.9 mb) and, if you're always on the go and too jacked up on caffeine, there's an iPod version (21.9 mb).

Kind of neat, huh?

[The Wisdom of a Distracted Mind] Can't Say I'm Surprised...

I do like "Doonesbury," but I don't read the comics all that often. Still, this one got me thinking:

(click for the embiggened version)

Let's see... 70% of a nine-trillion dollar national debt is the result of just three Republican presidents (Reagan the Dumb, Bush the Dumber & Bush the Dumbest).

Yes... yes... I know. Clinton got a blowjob, and that nullifies everything apparently. Still, I think with this crisis, we need a Constitutional Amendment which states that whenever a president balances the budget and erases the national debt, that president deserves any kind of sex he or she damn well pleases without any sort of judgment or public scorn whatsoever.

[The Wisdom of a Distracted Mind] Best Quote Ever?

I think this could, quite possibly, be the best quote I've ever read:

"Two being found in such a short period of time is quite suspicious," said Cpl. Garry Cox, spokesman for the Oceanside RCMP, which polices Jedidiah.
"Finding one foot is like a million to one odds, but to find two is crazy. I've heard of dancers with two left feet, but come on."

[The Wisdom of a Distracted Mind] George Bush versus Miss Teen South Carolina.

Like... I believe, like, such as, it's hard to pick a, like, dumber, such as, person, like, I believe, such as, Miss Teen the South Carolina, like, might actually, such as, learn something, such as, someday, such as, like The Dubya freaking won't?

It's scary.

[The Wisdom of a Distracted Mind] What the...?

Now, rumor has it that today is September.

I must've missed a memo. It's simply not possible. Yesterday, it was summer. I had plans. I wanted to do more summer things. There were beaches to stroll on. Maybe a baseball game or two to check out. Festivals! My god! There are big, loud, rowdy festivals for me to hit!

Somehow, I went to bed in summer, and I awoke today somewhere in a strange land where it isn't summer. It's like Canada or something. They're talking about football on the news. They're saying that after Monday, people will be rounded up and shipped off to Gitmo should they find themselves in the unfortunate position of wearing white.

The world has gone mad, and it should be June. Why isn't it June? Can we say it's June?

Now, if you're anything like me (which I hope you're not because I'm pretty damn stupid), you have a tendency of confusing Labor Day and Memorial Day. Trust me. I've already gone out a couple of times this week and asked people what their plans were for the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

Some people simply look at me and say, "I'm watching the Indy 500! Booyaah!"

Most people, however, respond with an odd sort of sadness. They look at me as though I was a drooling toddler who's just filled his diaper. In fact, it's almost as if they want to reach out, pat me on my big, bald head and say "there, there, dumb child. You have no idea how time works, do you? The little hand's on September and the big hand is ticking quickly toward STFU and put on your mittens!"

Perhaps the only genuine perk is that it is football season. And, today my UW Badgers are playing some group of bumbling hacks from someplace that calls itself a university. I think it's Washington State. I don't even think it's an accredited school. It looks as though it's a school where people go to major in things like ballroom dancing and how to bake cookies and pie. And, since they are playing in Wisconsin, I expect a rather dull performance from the Washington State team since they're probably all going to be jonesin' quite heavily for a cup of coffee.

Unfortunately, it's a shock to the system going from wanting to walk on the beach with a mai tai to grabbing a beer and sitting in front of the TV for a few hours to watch the game.

Anyway, I do hope you all manage to have a nice Memorial Labor Day weekend. Put away those white clothes, and find those mittens. I'm off to try and figure out what time it is.
